Student Extreme Games vs US
University of Supersaturated were contacted by the organisers of Beach Break Live, The biggest and possibly only Student focused festival in the country. The event which is situated in the depths of the left corner of Wales hosts the Student Extreme Games. A notorious event where student enthusiasm is mixed with student sized hangovers on student made courses. Consisting of Ski/Snowboard, Windsurf, SUP, Kitesurf, and Wakeboarding, Supersaturated and our Custom Clothing University of.. offered some prizes in the form of apparel and top prizes including photo and media shoots with our Supersaturated media team.
Two days of solid rain meant that the ski, windsurf and kitesurf events where held in what was being dubbed the '50 year storm'. tents where flying everywhere on site and puddles of water pooling on the dry ski slope. It's not quite known what held some of the ski-ers together but over confidence from lack of sleep and or too much alcohol might have been the cause for such heroics. Impressive to see so many inverts on a sticky slope.
This almost hindering weather had quite the opposite effect on the wind sports. The windsurfers where beaming from ear to ear as they contested in freestyle and race events. A few nameless 'camera whores' decided to play in front of our cameraman whilst there and consequently got a lot more media attention than the other riders! with less than favorable photo conditions from the water some of the kiters failed to even get spotted!! none the less there's was commitment and contentment and a few glory hounds that should remain nameless (Ali Barett?) throughing down in the onshore tricky conditions. With SKA president Alex Parker finding himself on the podium the rule books are already out and the investigations have begun!
The whole event turned on its head by the Sunday. The 50 year storm blow over, the clouds parted and as if summoned by 20,000 hanging students the sun turned on for the final event on the beach. A team of 'builders' from Uniwake had been on the beach for the previous week with diggers and spades replacing a swimming pool sized area of sand with lining and water... this required an industrial sized power pump that wouldn't have been amiss on a P&O ferry and a pond lining to hold 15,000litres of water!
with over 500 students watching the university wakeboarding cream took to the docks and delivered a mesmerizing show of skill and stunts of the highest caliber. A classic three hit pool gap set up with an 'A' frame, a kicker and a flat bar meant that a variation of tricks were thrown down with variable degrees of successful landings. A couple of brave decisions from Ash Covin to lie on the A frame whilst Dan Geirhart ollied over the hulk, and a strapped up Seb Wheeling getting into the final despite dislocating his shoulder in the semis got the crowd appreciating their small walk to the beach to watch the events unfold.
With Supersaturated sponsoring the prizes with a mixture of media shoots and clothing apparel we'll announce the winners in due course. In the mean time enjoy the gallery.
